From the fascinating cabinet of curiosities and the Baroque picture gallery to radical artistic concepts by Daniel Spoerri and John Cage and the museum of the future: with "A Museum of Museums", the Wallraf invites you on an exciting journey through time through the art of exhibiting and seeing in winter 2024/25. The occasion is the 200th anniversary of the death of "museum father" Ferdinand Franz Wallraf (1748-1824), who once laid the foundations for Cologne's first museum with an incredible enthusiasm for collecting. The special exhibition makes it possible to directly experience how much art viewing depends on the people who direct, amuse, instruct, challenge or overwhelm the public in the museum hall. The idea for the exhibition came from Wulf Herzogenrath, who has shaped the European museum landscape as director of renowned museums. Together with Anne Buschhoff and Ricarda Hüpel from the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum, he is putting "A Museum of Museums" into practice, so that the extraordinary special exhibition will be on show in Cologne from 11.10.24 to 9.2.25.
