THE WALLRAF IS CLOSING...
After 25 successful years with more than 3 million visitors, the Wallraf-Richartz Museum is in urgent need of renovation. To ensure that the iconic building designed by star architect Oswald Mathias Ungers continues to shine as a beacon of Cologne culture in the future, the museum will close for a two-year general renovation starting in 3 Aug 2026.
During this time, the entire museum will be closed. Our artworks will not be shown at other locations either. But you can already look forward to a new Wallraf. Late 2028, the ‘old’ renovated Ungers building and the ‘new’ extension by Swiss architects Christ & Gantenbein will reopen as one large, combined Wallraf-Richartz Museum & Fondation Corboud. Rest assured: it will be worth the wait!
