Wallraf-Richartz-Museum & Fondation Corboud

Programme (preliminary):

Thursday, March 31, 2022, 7 p.m.

Ceremonial opening lecture by Dr. Gabriele Finaldi, Director of the National Gallery, London.

(This is part of the KunstBewusst lecture series.)

Friday, April 1, 2022, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Lecture programme includes:

  • Prof. Enrique Valdivieso (Seville) - Bartolomé Esteban Murillo and his portrayal of popular life.
  • Prof. Viviana Farina (Naples) - Unpublished drawings by Jusepe de Ribera.
  • Dr. Matthias Weniger (Munich) - Germany and Spanish Painting - an update
  • PhDr. Anja K. Sevcik (Cologne): Ribera vs. Rembrandt
  • Dr. Justus Lange (Kassel): On the Question of Caravaggism in Murillo: the Kassel painting "Joseph and the Wife of Potiphar“
  • Dipl.Rest. Thomas Klinke (Cologne): Two Equal Drawings – An Unequal Pair. Jusepe de Ribera or Workshop?

In the course of the exhibition preparations, restorations and art historical research provided new insights into the creation, provenance, stylistic features and interpretations of the exhibited works, but they also raised new questions. With the symposium we would like to open the discussion to our audience, deepen it with the participation of international experts, and offer a forum for current research on Spanish Baroque painting.

Attendance is free of charge.

The finalised programme and registration procedures will be published here in due course.

In case of any questions please contact PhDr. Anja K. Sevcik, Head of the Baroque Department and Curator of the Exhibition Under the Skin (sevcik(at)wallraf(dot)museum).
